Game Of The Week

This week's game comes from the Tuesday night event at the Colorado Springs Chess Club:  The Cabin Fever Reliever (4SS, G30d10).  Orginally, this tournament was held in February and had a different name.  However, the club came up with a naming contest in 2002 when the current name was chosen.

It was a very appropriate name for me because I was taking the winter off from the club at the time.  Then I would return to play in the Cabin Fever Reliever and start my weekly routine of playing chess at the club.

Cabin Fever is an expression that has a lot of resonance here in Colorado.  It comes from the old mountain men who would get stuck in their mountain cabins when the winter storms hit.  They would go crazy being isolated from other people and being trapped in a small, confined space with limited distractions.  One story was made into the movie The Shining.

However, I guess not everyone is used to the expression.  Brian Rountree is from California, and he consistently gets the name wrong.  I think he has been listening to Bernie Sanders too much.

Bernie Sanders has been pandering to the black voters of New York by trying to appear like Abraham Lincoln.  He keeps telling them, "I was born in a little, log cabin apartment."

In any case, Brian Rountree seems to have gotten the political expression Log Cabin jumbled up with the going-stir-crazy expression Cabin Fever.  You can see it on his website:

With his brain all jammed up, it is no wonder that Brian found himself in this position against NM Josh Bloomer.  It is white to move.
