Give Me More Time

Game Of The Week

This week's game comes from one of my loyal readers:  DuWayne Langseth.  We first faced over the board on July 26th, 2005 at the Colorado Springs Chess Club in a G/15 Challenge Match.  I was rated 1997 at the club, and we gave DuWayne a 1670 rating.  I won.

However, DuWayne was quick to point out how he was better during the game and would have won, if only he had more time.

The next month (8/9/2005) we faced again in a G/15 Quad.  I won.

However, DuWayne was quick to point out how he was better during the game and would have won, if only he had more time.

Finally, I gave DuWayne 2 hours on his clock in the Monument Open (8/22/2009).  I won.

However, DuWayne was quick to point out how he was better during the game and would have won, if only he had more time.

We met for the first time in a G/90 on November 1, 2011 in the City Chess Championship.  I won.

However, DuWayne was quick to point out how he was better during the game and would have won, if only he had more time.

It was as if DuWayne was a big Whitesnake fan and left Give Me More Time on repeat.

You are the reason I'm down on my knees

I'm beggin' you to give me a chance

If only you would

Give me just a little more time

Give me just a little more time

Give me just a little more time

Give me just a little more time

To prove it to you...I'm gonna prove it.

(David Coverdale / Mel Galley)

Well, it turned out that the G/90 with a 30 second increment was the time control that did the trick.  DuWayne got into time trouble, and I started moving too fast.  I lost.

However, I could have taken a little more time on this move and found the tactic.

Black to move
