Game Of The Week
by Paul Anderson
I spent this weekend playing chess in the Colorado Springs Open. Since the tournament just ended hours ago, I haven’t received any games from other players. But I talked to a couple of folks who said they had some nice games and would send them to me. Josh Bloomer went undefea...

Game Of The Week

This weekend I played in the Schriever AFB command qualifier. It was open to the public, but the top 3 military personnel will go on to play in the Major Command Championship. From there, the winners go on to the USAF Championship, the US Interservice Championship, and finally, the NATO Championsh...

Game Of The Week
by Paul Anderson
My choice for game of the week was tougher this week, as the Colorado Springs area did not have a tournament this weekend (that I knew of). I did play in the Tuesday quads at the CSCC, but I did not play well (0-3). I figured if I was going to publish another loss, I might as well pick one that is...

Game Of The Week
by Paul Anderson
Well, I am still on a losing streak as far as my recorded games go. I usually only record USCF-rated games and email games. I have 327 of those in my databases. However, I do have a database of USCF’s quick-rated games but most of those overlap with the regular games. ...

Game Of The Week
I am off my losing streak (4 games and 2 weeks) and now have several recent wins I can choose from to publish. So, I have chosen the best win. Not only was it the best win of the three I had this weekend, but also it ranks as the 6th biggest upset I have ever had.
Of course, it was a fa...

Game Of The Week
This week I have gone back to publishing a game that I don’t have stored in any of my databases yet. This is my third and final simultaneous I played in against someone who is master strength or above.
I have played in a couple of simultaneous exhibitions against experts but I didn’t save ...

Game Of The Week
This week I received a letter from some chess organization saying I was a possible candidate to teach some kids chess basics at a summer camp. I was quite surprised to hear that my chess playing skills had reached the ears of some national chess organization. As I read on, I realized that it was actually some mass mailing from a list that was not filtere...

Game Of The Week
When I started this website, I was hoping to get people to send me some games and news. So far, I have received several news items. I am very appreciative to those folks who have sent in the news items as I think it adds to the enjoyment of the newsletter and makes my job easier.
Well, I finally got s...

Game Of The Week
Last week, I wrote about the first game Brian Wall gave me from the CSCC April Swiss tournament. This week I am writing about the second one. But it is a first in one aspect; it is the first game I have published that does not have me playing in it. Yes, I can hear you all cheering wildly. Enjoy it while yo...

Game Of The Week
One of the problems with publishing chess games is that I can’t publish someone’s win without publishing someone else’s loss. So, in an effort to keep those folks who may have had a loss published happy, I am announcing my policy of equal time:
Anyone who submits a g...

Game Of The Week
Last week I posed the question: Should a game lasting 9 moves be published? I got several people to reply. The general response was that a short game should be published, and I even received a couple of examples.
The shortest example was from Tim of Denver, CO who mentioned the 2-move ...

This week’s game comes from Dean Brown. Dean is probably the most active chess player in Colorado Springs (based on USCF-rated games). I looked at his member details from the USCF’s member services area and found that he has played in 241 events since 1991 and...

This week I am publishing “1 Games from VANCE DAVIS”. If you are like me, you are probably wondering who is Vance Davis. Well, I did some checking and it turns out he is a film star whose career stretched from 1971 to 1990.
Still doesn’t ring any bells? Maybe you remember...

Game Of The Week
This week I have a game that is hot off the presses! It comes from the CSCC speed tournament held earlier this week. The last time I published a game that was less than 7 days old was back in April. That game was also the last time I published one of my own games. So, my plea for people to send me some games has paid off. ...

Game Of The Week
This weekend I went to the Southern Colorado Open at the beautiful Masonic Lodge in Mantiou Springs. Not many people know this, but the Lodge is one of the few places that set its clocks ahead 50 minutes at daylight savings time instead of the traditional 60 minutes. It is called Masonic Savings Time and is why all the rounds started 10 minutes late.

Game Of The Week
This week I thought I would continue the Friar Tuck theme. I don’t want people out there to get the wrong impression from Brian Wall’s loss as Friar Tuck. I was not trying to imply that Friar Tuck, or monks in general, cannot play chess.
In fact, I know just the opposite to ...

Game Of The Week
Well, I have finally gotten back to my expert trilogy I started in April (http://cschess.webs.com/apps/blog/show/2929879-keep-black-alive-). This week I have the third and final installment of games from experts who I have beaten.
