Game Of The Week

The Colorado Springs Chess Club just updated their champions plaques with the new 2013 City Chess Champ and the 2014 City Speed Chess Champ.  With 49 champions, the club had to shell out for a new 3rd plaque, giving me a plaque to myself.  My goal now is to win the next 23 years and keep it that way!

Game Of The Week

When I started playing tournament chess, I read a pamphlet from GM Arthur Bisguier about how to improve at chess.  Since I had been crushed by him in a simul, I was more than willing to take his advice, even though I knew little about what a GM was.  He had a list of 10 principles to keep in mind when playing.  I t...

Game Of The Week

A dangerous heresy is circulating! I wanted to warn the chess playing public about a malicious doctrine that is infecting the Colorado chess scene. It is as deadly as the plague, and it has ruined the minds of every chess player who has fallen under its spell.

Be warned! Do not be...

Game Of The Week

When I first started playing chess, it was by email to stay in touch with my dad and sister.  I won both games, but my dad enjoyed it enough to continue in a 53 game match.  He was a PhD in electrical engineering who had played in the Chicago Industrial Chess League when he worked for Bell ...

Game Of The Week

I have been hanging out with chess masters Brian Wall and Josh Bloomer recently, staying up all night playing blitz.  Despite the painful and groggy next day, it has been a blast.  I even get a win once in a while.  Usually my wins come towards the crack of dawn when Brian is nodding off and Josh is dropping pieces. ...

How To Lose Without Resigning

Game Of The Week

Game Of The Week

Chess has the power to bring people together.  I have seen the oddest couples come together over the chessboard.  It can unite the peace-loving liberal with the hard-driving conservative and move them past their petty squabbling and into the realm of truth and beauty, at least for a little while.
